DCSTM records success over law enforcement operations.

A total of 82 traffic fines have been issued in the last weekend of February in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.  The monetary value of those fines amount to R96 thousand compounded with 36 drunk and driving arrests.

This is an output of law enforcement operations which took place in and around Mahikeng.

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari is pleased with the outcome of the operation saying that it is an indication of increased visibility of law enforcement officers on the roads.

“We always encourage compliance by road users and we condemn any contravention of the law which is why our officers are out in numbers on our roads to enforce that compliance.  Given that month end usually comes with increased activity and traffic on the roads, we double our efforts and become strategic by targeting hotspot areas and the output has so far proven to be positive.

“There has been a number of rapid fatal incidents over the past couple of weeks and the loss of lives is indeed tragic.  Therefore, we expect compliance of the highest order to be maintained on all fronts; unroadworthy vehicles, over loading and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not go unpunished,” said the MEC. .
